CrossFit vs. Big Soda

CrossFit revolutionized the fitness industry and changed it for the better. It came from a simple observation that most of the world was working out incorrectly with no carry over into everyday life, and from a desire to fight off chronic disease such as obesity and type 2 diabetes. I believe CrossFit has been focused on global wellness from the very beginning and 100% what attached me to the program and lead me to deciding this was the career path for me.

Nothing has really changed, CrossFit HQ is still on the bend to change the worlds perception on health, wellness and nutrition. How? Warning labels on Soda cans! From the beginning  CrossFit has had a strong stance on sugar…stay away from it. The stuff is toxic and can lead to a plethora of health issues. Read up on some by clicking here.

Sugar is in a lot more than just soda though, so why is HQ going after Big Soda companies?

Here are the main points of the article though:
1: The ACSM (American College of Sports Medicine) and NASM (Natrional Assosiation of Sports Medicine) are a competitors of CrossFit in that they both offer certification to trainers.

2: ACSM and NASM want to be the only licensing entity in the U.S and aimed to achieve this goal via legislation. Meaning all our awesome coaches at CFSTC would have to get these licenses as well or we would subject to fines and possibly even jail time. Just like practicing medicine without a license.

Luckily for us, CrossFit HQ caught onto this and fought it hard with nothing but the truth to prevent that legislation from going into effect.

Okay, so why Big Soda companies? Coca-Cola, Pepsi Co, and Gatorade are all major sponsors and partners with ACSM and NASM.

So in an effort to fight back, CrossFit wanted legislation to pass requiring soda companies to put warning labels on their drinks that looking something like this:

Unfortunatley the bill was voted on April 19th and did not pass, but CrossFit is not giving up the fight.

If anything, this is another reason for me to stay away from this stuff.
